Journey Home via Phnom Penh
Slowly but inevitably, our unforgettable vacation was coming to an end. We enjoyed a leisurely breakfast at the hotel and savored the breathtaking view over Kep Bay one last time.
After packing, our driver was already waiting – we had booked Taxi4you again – to take us back to Phnom Penh.
This time, the drive flew by, and just two hours later we arrived at the apartment complex where we had stayed during our first visit to Phnom Penh.
This time we got an apartment on the 5th floor.
Since we had spent so much time in the water the previous days, we decided to explore Phnom Penh a bit more.
We first took a tuk-tuk to the Russian Market, which is laid out like a labyrinth. As with all the other markets we had visited on our trip, there was an almost endless variety of goods – especially handicrafts, clothing, and electronics. The only thing missing was souvenirs.
The Russian Market is mainly frequented by locals, so it felt very authentic and interesting.
Since we still needed some souvenirs, especially because our planned visit to the night market in Kampot had been cancelled because of my illness, we decided to visit the night market again.
There we found the remaining gifts we needed for our loved ones back home.
In a very cozy spot, we ate street food for the last time. There were various kinds of freshly grilled meats, fried noodles, and all kinds of vegetables – a feast that we would remember for a long time.
Later, we strolled through the lively streets of this wonderful city one last time and spent some time by the two rivers.
When we were back at the apartment, my son and I couldn’t resist a night swim in the rooftop pool, especially since the elevator was working again.
Swimming at night above the sparkling city lights and looking down on the city was wonderful. A unique experience that will always have a special place in my heart.
The next morning, we slept in, then I set off in search of coffee. Not far from our complex, I found an Amazon Café where I got cappuccinos for us and an iced matcha latte for my son. I also bought croissants at the supermarket. And just like that, breakfast was ready.
We spent the last few hours packing our things. Then we wanted to enjoy the last rays of sunshine at the pool before heading back to wintry Europe.
First, we spent two beautiful hours in the park pool. I read my book, swam, and enjoyed the wonderful weather.
Later, my son and I went up to the 33rd floor because, of course, we had to say goodbye to our beloved rooftop pool.
One last time, we enjoyed the view over this wonderful city that had exceeded all our expectations.
At 4:00 pm, it was finally time to head to the airport. Our taxi crawled through Phnom Penh’s rush hour for almost an hour.
At the airport, we had coffee and crispy croissants before it was time to board our flight and say goodbye to Cambodia.
The one-hour flight to Bangkok was very pleasant. The staff of the Thai airline was very friendly, and the served dinner was phenomenal.
In Bangkok, we first went to the duty-free shop. Shopping wasn’t worth it because prices were very high, but it was fun to look at the goods on offer and test one or two perfumes.
Since we had a long wait ahead, we had secured access to the Miracle Lounge in advance, which turned out to be a great decision.
We spent a very pleasant three hours there, enjoying excellent food and refreshing drinks.
At 2:15 a.m., the time had finally come: our plane was ready for boarding.
The flight home was as pleasant as a 12-hour flight can be. Time passed surprisingly quickly, and we even landed almost an hour early.
A wonderful vacation had come to an end. We will never forget it! And I’m far from done with Southeast Asia!
