Journey to Cambodia

Right at 7 a.m., our driver was ready to take us to the Cambodian border. As passionate railway fans, we had originally planned to take the train. However, the idea of spending several hours in the third-class of a train without air conditioning and with only a squat toilet quickly made us forget our railway romanticism.

Before our trip, I had come across Taxi4you during my research, which I can highly recommend. For 130 dollars, we were picked up at the hotel, taken to the border, and from there driven directly to our hotel in Siem Reap in another vehicle. The four-hour journey was very pleasant – I slept through more than half of it.

At the border we first exited Thailand, then bought our visas for 33 Dollars per person, filled out two forms, and finally entered Cambodia, where another car was already waiting for us. The whole process took about an hour.

The three-hour drive from the border to Siem Reap was also very pleasant. I looked out the window with curiosity looking at this fascinating country I had never been to before.

When we arrived in Siem Reap, we were able to check into our rooms right away.

We were already extremely hungry, so we soon set off toward legendary Pub Street, where we had a very good meal in a nice, but not exactly cheap restaurant.

We spent the rest of the afternoon by the pool of our very centrally located hotel.

In the evening, we visited the famous night market of Siem Reap, where we bought some souvenirs and had some delicious street food.
