Hegykö

Today’s trip took us to Hungary, more precisely to Hegykö. This pretty little village is situated about 20 minutes from Sopron.

Since I had to work in the morning, we left Vienna at noon.

Upon arriving in Hegykö, we first stopped at our favorite restaurant. I ordered a salad with turkey breast strips, my partner had grilled pike-perch, and for dessert, Somlauer Nockerl. The food was excellent as always.

Then we went to the SARA Thermal Bath, my absolute favorite spa. I especially like to go there when it’s still too cold in spring or already too chilly in autumn for a visit to the lake. Today, the weather was beautiful and pleasantly warm.

So we found a cozy spot on the large sunbathing lawn.

The thermal bath has several pools. Outside, there are two medicinal pools, heated up to 36 degrees Celsius and equipped with benches.

Next to them, there is another medicinal pool, significantly cooler at about 28–30 degrees.

Two sports pools, filled with cold water, are only open during the warm season and are meant for swimming.

Indoors, there is a large multipurpose pool and another medicinal pool with hot water.

The SARA Thermal Bath is still a hidden gem. While you do meet some Austrians there, they mostly come from the nearby area.

I’ve known this spa for more than 20 years and have loved it from the start.

As always, we tried out all the pools, starting with the coldest outdoor one.

We spent only little time in the hot pools, as it was far too warm for that today. Likewise, we skipped the indoor area.

The most comfortable was the lukewarm pool, where we settled on one of the benches in the water and let the spring sun shine on our faces.

In between, we treated ourselves to cool drinks at one of the restaurants in the bath.

Time flew by far too quickly.

In the evening, a folk festival took place in Hegykö. Numerous stands offered visitors culinary delights from Hungary. There were also various wines to taste.

We ordered wraps, bratwurst, and fries, and for dessert, we shared a piece of crumb cake.

A band played live music, and people danced. The atmosphere was cheerful.

Tired and satisfied, we finally made our way home. We will definitely keep coming back to Hegykö.
