Day 3: Birthday, Dalfazalm and Dalfaz Waterfall
The next day was a special one: my birthday.
After another wonderful breakfast, we set off for Maurach, where we took the Rofan cable car back up into the mountains.
Just like at the Karwendel cable car, there are numerous restaurants and alpine huts at the mountain station, spoiling visitors with culinary Tyrolean delights.
Since we had just eaten, we headed straight for our first destination of the day: the Dalfazalm.
This path is a very easy hiking trail, almost more of a stroll.
Just like yesterday, this trail is very varied. You first walk through a fairly dense forest before crossing a large meadow with a beautiful view over Maurach and the lake.
Several cozy benches invite you to take a rest there.
Cows graze on the surrounding meadows; the landscape looks almost painted.
Shortly after, you can already see the goal of the trail: the Dalfazalm.
It is located above the lake at about 1700 meters elevation and offers a magnificent view over the lake, which once again sparkled in the sun in the most beautiful turquoise shades.
We found a cozy spot on the terrace and enjoyed some of the delicacies served there.
Then we marched on towards the Dalfaz Waterfall.
The path led steadily steeply downhill and became increasingly challenging. You especially had to be careful not to slip on the gravelly ground.
At the same time, the path offered almost continuous breathtaking views of the wonderful mountain landscape.
For more than two hours, we descended deeper into the valley. At a small hut, we took a short break.
The path continued through a forest, where we soon heard the roar of the waterfall.
Finally, we reached our destination, and it was truly impressive how forcefully the waterfall plunged down from over 60 meters high. The hardships of the hike were quickly forgotten in the face of this natural spectacle.
We took a longer rest by the waterfall before continuing down into the valley.
Exhausted, we finally reached the bus stop, from where a bus took us back to the hotel.
After a refreshing shower, we headed back to the wellness area to warm our tired, old bones after the hike and relax our muscles.
From the outdoor area, we had a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains.
Now and then, we even spotted kite surfers in the sky.
During dinner, I then experienced a wonderful surprise: the hotel had placed a birthday card on my seat – what a great gesture!
Like the previous days, we ended this day quietly in our room, soon falling into a deep sleep.
