Kuang Si Waterfalls
Early in the morning, our driver picked us up to take us to the famous waterfalls.
For more than half an hour, we drove through beautiful landscapes until we finally reached a huge parking lot.
From there, we continued into the national park by electric vehicle.
After just a few minutes, we arrived at our first destination, the Bear Rescue Center, which is dedicated to providing a new home for bears that had often lived under unimaginably cruel conditions before. In a large area, visitors can watch the bears eat, sleep, and play. A souvenir stand mainly sells T-shirts, with the proceeds used to fund the center.
After about half an hour at the bears, we walked on to the actual destination of our trip—the waterfalls. After just a few minutes, we could hear the roaring of the mighty water masses plunging almost 60 meters down.
The Kuang Si Waterfalls are breathtakingly beautiful. They consist of several tiers and numerous pools of different sizes, filled with turquoise blue water. Some of these pools are also suitable for swimming.
We first visited the main pool. Since it was still very early, the large tourist crowds had not yet arrived, which greatly benefited the place. Everything felt so peaceful, and the sound of the water had a calming effect.
We hiked along a narrow, steep trail to the "Top of the Waterfall." The path was strenuous but manageable even for us, who are rather inexperienced hikers. Along the way, we had several wonderful views over the entire area.
At the top, there was a large pool where you could swim. Since I love water and can’t pass by any without jumping in, I took the opportunity, of course. The water was pleasantly cold and very refreshing.
Back down again, the scene looked completely different than on the way up—the tourist crowds had arrived! Especially in front of the main fall, a long line of people had formed, all eager to get the perfect photo.
Away from the main fall, however, the crowds were not really a problem. The area is huge, so the masses were well dispersed.
In the café beautifully situated above the waterfalls, we treated ourselves to coffee and croissants.
Afterwards, we swam in the ice-cold water of one of the pools. That was an absolutely unforgettable experience. You could even stand under the waterfall and let the water cascade over your body. I will never forget that experience.
Eventually, even the most beautiful day comes to an end.
So, we made our way back. First, we took a look at the souvenir stalls near the waterfalls. In Luang Prabang, we enjoyed a lunch and spent a very relaxed afternoon by the pool at our hotel.
