Day 1: A Problematic Journey
This year, we had once again planned a trip to the Salzkammergut by scooter.
Around 9 a.m. we set off from home and deliberately chose the motorway this time, as we hoped to spend the afternoon by the pool and therefore wanted to arrive quickly.
Well – things were to turn out quite differently!
We first drove to Ybbs, where we had such a great breakfast the year before, and once again the food was wonderful.
Soon the journey continued, and we made good progress. The weather was fantastic, not as oppressively hot as recently, the visibility was clear, the motorway fairly empty – in short, ideal travel weather.
Then – one hour before our destination – it happened: the scooter broke down. We came to a halt right in the middle of the motorway. Continuing was out of the question.
We had no choice but to call roadside assistance, and we had to wait almost an hour for them.
Unfortunately, our hope of getting a replacement car was not fulfilled. We had no other option than to take the next train home.
Fortunately, the gentleman from roadside assistance drove us to the station in Linz, where we boarded the next train to Vienna. From the station, we then had to cross Vienna using public transport and a taxi before we finally got home again and into the car. Seven hours after our first departure, we set off once more.
On the way, we stopped at a service station where we had dinner. By that time, we were absolutely starving.
Around 8:00 p.m. we finally reached St. Georgen, where we had booked the same hotel as the previous year.
Even though it was already late, I still wanted to jump into the pool for at least a short swim.
Later, we drove down to the lake, where an Austropop event was taking place that evening.
We listened to the music and enjoyed the mild evening, grateful to have arrived after all and, of course, ultimately happy that nothing worse had happened.
