Farewell to the Salzkammergut
On Thursday, the day before my departure, Gerhard came back to Bad Mitterndorf to pick me up. He arrived at the hotel around 2 p.m. – tired from the long drive but happy to be back.
Since it was once again very hot and thunderstorms were forecast for later in the afternoon, we decided to go for one last swim in the pool.
We enjoyed the warm sun on our skin one last time and the refreshing coolness of the water.
Then we set off for the Goaßhittn, which we definitely still wanted to visit before leaving.
The Goaßhittn is a very rustic hut located on a hill not far from the hotel.
They serve cider, elderberry juice, and typical regional delicacies there.
When we arrived, the weather was still quite nice.
We opted for the house platter – a slice of bread with Verhackertes (a kind of minced bacon spread) and Bauernkrapfen (traditional fried pastries). The food was delicious.
The view from the hut was phenomenal. One last time, I gazed out over the landscape where I had felt so comfortable for three whole weeks.
Gradually, the weather turned worse until it finally started to rain heavily.
But that didn’t dampen our spirits. In fact, the dark thunderclouds gave the landscape a truly mystical atmosphere.
Eventually, it was time to return to the hotel, where we took a short rest, packed the remaining luggage, and had dinner.
The next morning, it was time to say goodbye.
Just three hours later, we were already back home – with plenty of wonderful memories in our luggage.
Conclusion: I really enjoyed the health retreat. The treatments were meaningful and effective, and everyone—from the staff at the reception to the therapists, the kitchen team and the housekeeping staff—was exceptionally friendly and kind. I felt completely at ease here, loved the peace and quiet of the forest, the chance to unwind, and—anyone who knows me won’t be surprised—the pool most of all. I sincerely hope I’ll be able to come back one day!
