Lake Altaussee

Once again, a long weekend was coming to an end. Since Gerhard had to head back home today and wanted to leave by early afternoon, we only planned a short outing.

As Sundays were always free of treatments, we left straight after breakfast and drove to Lake Altaussee, which is only about 25 minutes from the hotel.

We had already stopped by briefly two days ago, but this time we wanted to take a closer look.

Lake Altaussee is pure idyll, lying as it does between gentle hills and craggy cliffs at the foot of the Loser mountain.

After parking the scooter, we immediately made our way to the boat dock because this time we wanted to see the lake from the water.

Fortunately, there was already a boat waiting and ready to depart.

We quickly boarded, and off we went. We bought our tickets directly on board – 20 euros per person for the full round trip, with the option to get off along the way.

The ride took us along the romantic lake with its emerald-green waters, while the captain provided us with occasional information about the lake and the surrounding landscape.

We thoroughly enjoyed the cruise, gazing at the shoreline, which was lined with green meadows. Behind them rose tall, rugged mountains.

It looked like something straight out of a fairy tale.
Every now and then we spotted huts on the shore, waiting to welcome guests.

The ride passed far too quickly. After just 25 minutes, we arrived at the “Seewiese” stop.

That’s where we got off. As the name suggests, there is a large meadow here, dotted with colourful wildflowers.

On this meadow sits a popular, very rustic restaurant called the Jagdhütte (hunting lodge).

About a 20-minute walk further on, you can reach the restaurant Seewiese, which is known for its excellent cuisine.

We first strolled across the meadow and then followed the lakeshore.

Since we prefer a more rustic atmosphere, we decided to stop at the Jagdhütte.

We ordered another Brettljause and some cold drinks. Although it was still quite early, the sun was already blazing in the sky, and once again, not a single cloud was in sight.

A traditional folk music group was playing in the hut. The atmosphere was uniquely relaxed – perfect for unwinding and dreaming.

We spent almost two hours there, soaking up the lovely mood, listening to the music, and gazing at the shimmering lake surface, which reflected the towering mountains.

Then, unfortunately, it was time to head back.

We waited until the boat came into view again, then made our way to the dock.

The return trip was just as beautiful as the way there.

It was incredibly hot, and we kept seeing people swimming in the lake.

Since we had so little time, we hadn’t brought our swimsuits – and I regretted that a little now.

All too soon, we arrived back at the boat dock in Altaussee.

Then it was time to return.
Back at the hotel, we treated ourselves to a cup of coffee, and then Gerhard was already on his way home.

I headed to the pool, where I let the afternoon fade away peacefully, reading my book in and by the water.

This weekend will forever hold a special place in my heart!
