Rosenborg, Amalienborg and Nyhavn
The next morning again started with the amazing breakfast at the hotel.
Then we made our way to Rosenborg Castle, which is idyllically located in one of the city's most beautiful parks – the King’s Garden. We strolled through this spacious park, which was beautiful even in winter. In fact, some roses were even in bloom.
From the park, it was just a few steps to the Marble Church, whose massive dome was modeled after St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome.
Right across from it lies Amalienborg Palace, the residence of the Danish royal family. Four palaces are arranged around a large square, in the center of which stands an equestrian statue.
We continued to the picturesque Nyhavn with its colorful house facades. Numerous restaurants are lined up side by side. Once Nyhavn was the notorious red-light district for sailors; today it is one of the most beautiful areas of the city.
Hans Christian Andersen once lived here, too.
We walked back via Strøget, where we bought the remaining souvenirs.
Back at the hotel, we freshened up again for the evening.
When we headed out once more, it was already dark, and the city sparkled with lights. We took the harbor bus to Bryggens Spisehus, a trendy restaurant by the water. Although the place was packed, a friendly waitress managed to find us a table.
The food was incredibly good.
After dinner, we took a short walk along the river, where there are several small sauna huts. After their sauna sessions, people actually jump into the ice-cold river—a very special kind of spectacle.
Since it started to rain, we decided to take another round trip on the harbor bus. It was absolutely beautiful to see the brightly lit Copenhagen from the water. After a full loop, we got off again at Nyhavn.
At night, this area looked even more romantic than during the day. The houses reflected in the water, and the whole ambiance felt almost magical.
We treated ourselves to some ice cream for dessert, which tasted excellent despite the wintry temperatures.
From the square Kongens Nytorv, we finally took the bus back to the hotel.
