Savudrija, Sipor, Brtonigla, Skarline Nationalpark and Buje
Well rested, we woke up the next morning and first prepared a delicious breakfast on our terrace.
Afterwards, we drove to Savudrija, a small fishing village with a beautiful historic lighthouse, which you reach via a short walking path. The area there felt so peaceful and quiet. There were only a few people around, fishing boats rocked gently on the water, and the sea sparkled in the spring sun.
Not far from Savudrija lies Sipar, where we visited the Roman ruins located on a small peninsula in the sea. Surrounded by water on three sides and only accessible on foot, they transport visitors to a long-forgotten time.
This place too felt incredibly calm and serene. There was no wind, the sun already quite strong, but not yet unbearably hot—pure holiday feeling.
Our next stop was Brtonigla, a romantic inland village where you can find rustic little restaurants serving regional delicacies like asparagus and truffles. The small main square is especially charming.
Near Brtonigla lies the Skarline National Park, a peaceful oasis with lovely hiking trails. You can visit an impressive gorge, and along the way you hear the trickle of small waterfalls. Everything feels very idyllic—a perfect place to escape from everyday life.
By then, we were starting to feel hungry. We searched for a nearby restaurant on Google and came across “Konoba Luciana,” which had excellent reviews.
There we ordered regional truffle dishes—the best I’ve ever eaten. My partner and I had truffle pasta, and my son a juicy steak. It was served with crisp salad and golden-yellow wine from the region—a true feast.
Well fed, we continued our sightseeing tour and visited Buje, a medieval town that sits picturesquely on a hill.
It’s famous for its narrow, steep alleyways and the beautiful main square, from where you have an impressive view over the whole area.
After strolling through the romantic alleys of this beautiful town for almost an hour, we returned to the hotel, spent some more time by the sea, and finally ended the evening with another pizza on our terrace.
