Dune Hike
Today, we had again planned a dune hike that had thrilled us so much last year.
We packed some sandwiches and intended to get drinks along the way.
It’s possible to walk from San Agustin all along the beach to Maspalomas—a wonderful tour right by the water.
The weather was beautiful, the sun beaming from the sky. The temperature was pleasant. This is what we appreciate most about the Canaries—it’s never too hot and never too cold.
So we walked along the beach. Immediately after San Agustin, you have to climb a few steps up and then you reach one of the numerous shopping centers that are plentiful in this area.
Once you have crossed the center, you can already see the beach at Playa del Ingles. It seems to stretch on endlessly; in the distance you see the famous dunes of Maspalomas. The yellow of the sand forms a beautiful contrast to the blue sky.
At Playa del Ingles, you go from the promenade high above the water down by elevator, walk through another shopping center and finally arrive at the beach promenade.
Here are numerous restaurants, cafés, bars and shops of all kinds. In a supermarket we bought ice‑cold drinks.
At the end of the promenade, the path continues along the beach.
We repeatedly took swimming breaks along the way, ate our sandwiches and swam in the cool Atlantic Ocean.
This is how I imagine a perfect beach day.
We passed the famous dunes; there, too, we took a break and enjoyed the silence and the sound of the sea. Most holidaymakers do not walk so far along the beach, which is why you often have this section all to yourself.
In the late afternoon, we finally reached the iconic lighthouse, the Faro de Maspalomas.
Here the dunes end and another promenade begins, lined with upscale boutiques and perfumeries. We strolled on until we reached our favorite café.
There we treated ourselves to our beloved Café con leche.
Finally, we took a taxi back to our hotel, prepared a little something for dinner and ended the evening cosily on our lovely terrace.
