Arrival and Noche de Tapas

The five‑hour flight had been pleasant, and the view from the window was, as always, phenomenal.

When we finally landed, we were already very tired and hungry. Nevertheless, we first picked up our rental car and drove to our hotel in San Agustin. The anticipation was huge. We had last been here a year ago and had immediately fallen in love with the hotel so much that we wanted to come back this year.

After unpacking, we set off again straight away for the capital, Las Palmas, about thirty minutes away.

As always, we parked in the large San Telmo car park, right next to the park of the same name. From there it was only a few steps to the shopping street Calle Mayor de Triana and into the old town.

When we passed a branch of my favorite clothing store, hunger was immediately forgotten. They had beautiful things there again this year.

But soon our stomachs started growling again—and after all, that’s exactly why we had come.

That evening in the old town of Vegueta, the “Noche de Tapas” was taking place—a culinary highlight that happens weekly in summer and draws hundreds of people to the area.

So we hopped from bar to bar and tried the most wonderful tapas, accompanied by excellent Spanish wine.

The atmosphere was exuberant. Life in Spain happens on the street—and that’s exactly what we love. Everywhere you could hear a buzz of voices, laughter, music, and the aroma of delicious food filled the air.

We really felt at home again!

Many bars and even more tapas later, we were more than full and happy.

After a “Café con leche,” we made our way back to the hotel, full of anticipation for what lay ahead.
