Day 4 – Psiiri and Piräus

In the morning, we first packed our suitcases. Unfortunately, our stay in Athens was already coming to an end, but further adventures awaited us.

First, however, we wanted to see another exciting district of the city—Psiri. This area has undergone quite a transformation in recent years, from a rather disreputable area to a modern trendy district, and is now known for street art and alternative culture.

Cozy restaurants, charming cafés, small shops line up with modern boutiques and chic bars.

This district feels very cozy; you don't sense the hustle and bustle of a big city here.
We spent hours wandering through the winding alleys, soaking in the atmosphere.

In a rustic taverna, we ordered a selection of Greek delicacies for lunch. It tasted wonderful.

Finally, we visited the shopping street once more, where we treated ourselves to another ice cream.

Then it was time to return to the hotel. We had arranged a "late check-out" with the very nice landlords, and there was no extra charge for it. Additionally, the landlords invited us for a farewell drink—Greek hospitality is impressive.

Then we made our way to Piraeus, where we would take the ship to Crete in the evening.

When we reached the famous port, we felt like we had arrived in a different world. There was no trace of the tranquility and serenity of the old town here. Piraeus is loud and hectic. Steel ocean giants lay at anchor in the harbor, waiting for passengers.

We had to walk quite a long way along the harbor until we found our ship.

On board, we first located our cabin. It was small, as is usual on ships, but very cozy. There was a single bed and a bunk bed. The bathroom was surprisingly large.

Our first stop was the top outdoor deck, from where we had a beautiful view of the harbor.

Then we explored the huge ship. There were numerous decks with several bars, two restaurants, and a shop.

In the shop, we bought a few souvenirs of this exciting journey. There was also an outdoor bar where we bought cool drinks and enjoyed the atmosphere on the ship.

Then we freshened up in our cabin, showered off the day's dust, and went back on deck. The ship was just about to depart, and we watched as it slowly moved toward the open sea, while the harbor became smaller and smaller.

In one of the restaurants, we ordered dinner, which unfortunately was not a culinary revelation. It resembled more of a mass catering. Had we known that, we would have brought our own food.

We spent the evening on deck, enjoying the sea breeze.

Finally, we visited one of the beautiful bars inside the ship, where we ordered ouzo and raki. Thus, we ended the evening before going to bed quite late.
