Day 5 – Arrival in Crete

My alarm rang at 5 a.m., and Gerhard also woke up. We got dressed and went up on deck. There, we got ourselves some coffee and sat down on two chairs from which we had a wonderful view of the dark water and the still black sky. Above us, countless stars were shining – the atmosphere was magical!

In the distance, we could soon make out the lights of Crete, which was quickly approaching. At the same time, the first rays of the sun began to color the sky in the most beautiful shades. I will never forget this moment.

Shortly before we arrived in Heraklion, the port of Crete, we went back to the cabin, woke up my son, and packed our things.
Then it was time to say goodbye to the ship.

We headed straight to the bus station to catch the next bus to Chania. When we arrived there, however, we learned that we would have to wait 1.5 hours. So, we treated ourselves to breakfast at the station’s café.

Finally, after arriving in Chania, we took a taxi for the remaining distance to the hotel.

We fell in love with the hotel immediately. It was located right on a kilometre-long, fine sandy beach. The hotel had numerous sun loungers, and there was always enough space. It was like paradise.

Right on the beach was a hotel bar, where breakfast, lunch, and dinner were also served.

Behind the beach was a large pool, which was open daily until midnight. So we definitely wanted to go for a night swim at some point – I was already looking forward to it.

Our apartment itself was very spacious. We had a large kitchen with a dining area, a bathroom, and two bedrooms.

Both bedrooms had access to the terrace, from which we had a view of the mountains, while from the kitchen you could see the sea.

We spent the afternoon relaxing at the pool and the beach, where we read, dozed a bit, and simply let our souls unwind.

In the evening, we dined at the beach bar. There was traditional Greek cuisine and a bottle of wine. While we ate, we listened to the sound of the waves.

After dinner, we went to bed, as we were quite tired after the very short night on the ship.
