Day 3: Traunsee and Offensee
We started the day once again with a wonderful breakfast at the hotel.
Then we set off in the direction of Lake Traunsee, but instead of taking the faster motorway, we chose the more romantic route along several country roads.
I love Traunsee. It lies deep blue, surrounded by high mountains. Again and again, you come across idyllic villages along its shore.
We took a short break in Ebensee and had a closer look at the town.
We strolled through the pretty little lanes and walked along the river. The town was very quiet and seemed almost deserted. On a small hill, we visited the lovely parish church.
Ebensee is a very charming village, but for mid-August, it seemed extremely quiet to us.
We continued on to our beloved Offensee, which in my opinion is the most beautiful lake in the Salzkammergut.
We once again parked in the large car park at the start of the hiking trail. Once more, we were absolutely impressed by the stunning landscape mirrored in the crystal-clear water.
The lake shimmered in the sunlight in the most beautiful aquamarine tones. It radiates an incredible sense of calm and serenity.
After a 20 minute walk, we reached the beautiful sunbathing meadow again. Unlike our last visit, we were not in a hurry this time.
We found a cosy spot right on the lake's shore and spread out our towels. Then we plunged into the water. It was glorious once again: ice-cold, but refreshing.
In between, we treated ourselves to cool drinks at the hut by the lake. Then it was time for another swim.
At lunchtime, we ordered currywurst, a bacon sandwich, and fresh salad at the hut. Just like two years ago, everything tasted excellent again.
We spent the rest of the day swimming and lazing around. Of course, I also had a book with me — that’s a must for any day by the lake.
Only in the early evening did we make our way back to the hotel.
As the sun was already very low, the short walk was even more idyllic than it had been upon arrival.
We ended the evening with a light snack at the hotel.
