Day 4: Sankt Georgen and Lake Attersee
Today we finally wanted to take a closer look at Sankt Georgen. After all, we had been staying here for several days, had already driven through the town several times, but had never really taken the time to explore it properly.
So we strolled along the long main street, which is lined with all kinds of shops, as well as restaurants and cafés. In the centre of the village stands the small, pretty parish church.
Sankt Georgen is a charming little village that has long since been discovered by tourists thanks to its proximity to Lake Attersee. Still, it’s nowhere near as crowded as many other places in the Salzkammergut.
In the late morning, we headed once more to Lake Attersee, where we had planned to go on a boat trip.
We found a spot on the sun deck and enjoyed the breeze. It was another very hot day.
We passed by the idyllic villages surrounding the lake.
The landscape is wonderfully varied. Gentle green hills alternate with rugged cliffs.
The lake water was crystal clear and shimmered in the sun in the most beautiful shades of blue and turquoise.
The boat made frequent stops to let passengers off and take new ones on board.
The main stops were Weyregg, Nussdorf, Weißenbach, and Steinbach. One village is more beautiful than the other.
The trip across the lake lasted several hours. Along the way, we ordered cool drinks and pretzels. It was lovely.
After returning to the village of Attersee, we looked for a nice spot to swim.
It didn’t take us long to find one. Of course, we couldn’t leave the lake without swimming in it at least once.
It was wonderful to swim in such a stunning setting. I swam far out into the lake, where I could take in the entire panorama one last time. A truly unforgettable experience.
Unfortunately, there was no food or supermarket near our swimming spot. Since we were already quite hungry, we decided to head back to the hotel and eat some of the food we had bought.
So we sat by the pool, enjoyed a small meal, and spent the rest of the afternoon relaxing by the water.
In the evening, we had originally planned to return to the restaurant from the first day. But as the evening wore on, dark clouds began to gather, and eventually a thunderstorm rolled in, so we decided to eat in Sankt Georgen instead.
We soon discovered a pizzeria where we ordered a delicious Quattro Stagioni and a Hawaiian pizza, while outside it looked as though the world was ending.
The food was wonderful.
After the rain had eased a bit, we left the restaurant and took a short stroll through Sankt Georgen.
Even at night, this charming village is absolutely worth seeing.
