Day 4: Lake Fuschl
For the next day, we had planned a hike around Lake Fuschl, where neither of us had ever been before.
So we drove to Fuschl am See, where we were able to park the car inexpensively in a large car park.
First, we explored this idyllic place, situated very romantically on the lakeshore.
Then we started the circular trail. It led almost the entire way right along the lake. At first, tall trees blocked the view of the water, but then the forest opened up. The lake lay before us in turquoise brilliance.
Along the way, there are plenty of private bathing coves, mostly owned by the hotels. However, we also discovered a free access point, but decided to save our swim for later.
So we continued our walk along the lake. Eventually, the path led away from the shore toward the hinterland.
There we discovered a cosy restaurant, where we stopped to rest and recharge.
The path continued past lush meadows and pastures where cows, sheep, and goats were grazing.
It was like a scene from a postcard.
Finally, at the far end of the lake, we reached Fuschl Castle, which today serves as a luxury hotel and has been used several times as a filming location.
From there, the path led along the opposite shore back to Fuschl am See.
Shortly after the castle, you come across the “Fischerei,” famous for its fresh, delicious fish.
We bought smoked char and sat down at a table on the lakeshore.
There we also saw the famous “Fuschlerin” – a flat-bottomed boat that ferries guests across the lake. We had originally planned a boat ride too, but then decided to complete the circular route on foot.
On this side of the lake, there are several free access points, so we finally managed to go for a swim in this stunning lake after all. The water was pleasantly refreshing.
Happy but very tired, we reached Fuschl again in the early evening and headed back. Sadly, this short holiday was already coming to an end.
