Day 3 – Liechtenstein
The next morning, we set out early. At the train station, we boarded a train to Sargans, where we transferred to a bus to Vaduz.
The journey took us through the most beautiful mountain landscapes, with gentle hills and snow-covered peaks passing by.
Vaduz impressed us especially with its peaceful atmosphere. The city lies dreamily nestled among lush green hills and rugged mountains.
Above the small town, the mighty castle – the residence of the princely family – towers on a rocky hill.
We first strolled along the shopping street and browsed through the many little shops.
At a bakery, we picked up some coffee and food. Even though it was winter, the weather was so pleasant that we could sit outside on the terrace.
After this short break, we set out for the castle.
A narrow forest path led us ever higher, with breathtaking views of the city and the surrounding valley opening up again and again. We took a short rest at a particularly scenic viewpoint and enjoyed the view and the beautiful weather.
The castle was impressive, majestically watching over the city.
It is surrounded by meadows and forests where one can walk for hours and lose all sense of time.
We returned via a different path that led us through a forest. On the descent, we were treated to lovely views of the town again and again.
Back in Vaduz, we took another walk through the charming alleys, which looked enchanting in the low evening sun.
On the main square, there was an ice rink where children and teenagers skated around while various stalls offered all sorts of delicacies to visitors.
We watched the hustle and bustle for a while over hot chocolate and punch.
Then it was time to head off.
We took a public bus to Feldkirch, giving us the opportunity to travel all the way across Liechtenstein.
From the bus window, we had a magnificent view of the breathtaking landscape of this small, charming country.
In Feldkirch, we finally boarded the train home. In the dining car, we once again enjoyed the passing scenery before arriving back home about five hours later.
