Day 4: Cruising Lake Wörthersee on a ship and Minimundus

We had planned something special for today: we wanted to explore the lake by ship.

Since we wanted to catch the first ship, we had to hurry after breakfast. So we marched at a brisk pace to the ship dock in Pörtschach.

As we arrived at the pier, the ship was just pulling in. We immediately found nice spots on the sun deck.

Then the round trip could begin. The ship stops at numerous docks, and we had planned the entire route.

First, we headed in the direction of Velden. The sun shone beautifully all day from the sky, the water sparkled, the atmosphere was magical. The lakeshore looked like something out of a picture book.

In Velden, we had a lovely view of the famous castle hotel where the TV series with Roy Black was once filmed.

The journey from Pörtschach to Velden had taken almost an hour. The return trip followed the same route – just in the opposite direction.

We stopped several times again until, an hour later, we reached Maria Wörth. This picturesque town lies on a peninsula that juts out into the lake and is visible from almost anywhere around the lake. On the highest point of the peninsula sits the famous parish church. This place looks like something from a picture book.

45 minutes later we reached Klagenfurt. We had already seen the city from the water when we were out with the boat.

Still, the view from the ship offered a completely different perspective and a much wider outlook.

In Klagenfurt, most passengers got off and many new ones boarded. We stayed on board, and 15 minutes later, the continued our journey back to Pörtschach.

By now it was almost unbearably hot, and the sun blazed mercilessly from the sky, so we looked for a shaded spot to protect ourselves from sunburn.

We ordered cold drinks and a small snack and arrived some time later back in Pörtschach, where we disembarked.

It was now early afternoon. We freshened up briefly in our room. Then we spent the rest of the day again mostly on the beach and in the water.

In the late afternoon, our children said they would like to visit Minimundus. Since it wasn't far and there was no reason not to, we set off.

In Minimundus, you can find more than 150 models of famous buildings from around the world at a scale of 1:25. In just a few hours, you can take a trip around the world.

We traveled from the Statue of Liberty to the Taj Mahal. Then on to the Sagrada Familia and the Temple of Borobudur.

We saw St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome as well as Miramare Castle near Trieste.

From Russia, we traveled to Paris and then on to Hollywood.

By now, it had gotten dark, which gave the miniature park a special atmosphere.

It was already late when we returned to the hotel. There, we ended the day comfortably on the balcony with a glass of wine.
