Day 3: Lake Vassach and Villach
After another delicious breakfast, we wanted to visit Villach today. But first, we drove to Lake Vassach, a small lake not far from the city center.
The lake is surrounded by forest on three sides, and on the fourth side, there is a sunbathing lawn with access to the lake. There is even a small water slide. Directly behind the lawn is a popular campsite.
I first got to know Lake Vassach in the early 90s when I spent two vacations there with my parents and siblings. That’s why I wanted to see whether the lake had changed.
To my surprise, everything still looked largely the same as 30 years ago. The toilet facilities had been modernized, and the slide was new, but otherwise, everything was largely unchanged.
We took a short walk along the lake, then headed to Villach.
Villach is the second-largest city in Carinthia. The beautiful old town is especially worth seeing. I particularly like the shopping street. There you can find numerous shops, restaurants, and cafés. There’s always something going on, which makes the city feel very lively. The ambiance is almost Mediterranean, and I love it.
We strolled a bit through the pretty old town alleys and soaked up the wonderful atmosphere. We also walked along the Drau – it was heavenly.
In the afternoon, we had a small snack in the garden of our guesthouse.
We spent the rest of the day swimming and relaxing again.
It is wonderful to swim in a lake – much better than in a pool. From the water, you can really take in the surroundings – a dream.
